Australian Wool Innovation funds the participation of emerging wool industry leaders in the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation’s Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP). The program is producing a network of informed, capable and ethical leaders to work collaboratively to advance the interests of their industries, communities and rural Australia.

ARLP wool industry leaders engage with AWI, the wool industry and community about the learnings from the ARLP and continue to use these learnings for the advancement of rural and regional Australia.

Applications for course 26 end on 30 September 2018.

4. Thinking of breeding for flystrike resistance?

It is possible to select and breed your flock for increased flystrike resistance by focussing on the traits that increase the risk of breech strike and body strike. Here is how you can get started.

  1. Select rams with low wrinkle, low dag and low breech cover ASBVs.
  2. Assess ewes for fleece rot, wrinkle, dag and breech cover.
  3. Develop a joining strategy.
  4. Assess your lambs and make a decision about mulesing and hogget classing.

If you want more detail on how to get started breeding for flystrike resistance and how long it will take click here.
