1. Lamb survival tips
Lamb weaning rates have varied little in the past 30 years, stagnating at around 80% of ewes joined, but improved monitoring of ewes and feed resources, as well as significant industry investment, means there are more opportunities for producers to lift weaning numbers

2. Matching feed to need
Given the seasonal conditions facing producers across western Queensland this year, matching the feed to the need has never been more important
Find out how you can match the feed to need
3. Shed & yard design
Woolgrowers can access Australian Wool Innovation’s comprehensive, on-line shearing shed and sheep yard design guidelines that include labour-saving technologies, and productivity and work health and safety features.

7. Size linked to ewe profitability
Larger ewes can be more profitable when access to labour is limited, according to research scientist Andrew Kennedy. Mr Kennedy went on to say “the assumption is that because you can’t run as many ewes it must be less profitable but they were counteracting this assumption by producing heavier lambs”.

8. Website dedicated to drought donations – buyabale.com
A website has been created to sell or donate fodder directly to Australian farmers in drought declared areas. It’s an initiative of the Aussie Helpers Foundation, which is assisting drought-affected farmers and graziers nation-wide.

9. Economics of soil erosion control measures
Correct planning, equipment (dumpy level) and taking the time to measure the heights, slopes and water flow directions were some of the key messages that Darren Hill spoke about at the recent Soil Erosion workshops organised by South West Natural Resource Management.

10. Frontier Services – Outback Link program
Frontier services runs a program called Outback Links, which matches up skilled volunteers with families in rural and remote Australia who need a helping hand. Many people living in outback Australia could use a helping hand. At the same time, these people are happy to share the essence of the bush, its beauty and its ruggedness and develop a better understanding of the ethos of outback Australia.
