Australian CliMate is a free iTunes app that can help farmers with better decisions about their farming operations based on recent weather and likely climate probabilities. Farmers can quickly interrogate the last 60 years of daily rainfall, temperature and radiation data for their location. Seasonal forecasts are provided based on current ENSO conditions.

2. Feeding sheep during dry periods
If you are already feeding or considering supplementary feeding your sheep there are a range of good fact sheets on the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries website. They cover topics such as creep feeding lambs, full hand feeding of sheep and factors to consider when supplementary feeding.

3. Novel technologies for flystrike prevention
Early trials of two technologies (Liquid Nitrogen and laser treatments) warrant further research as potential flystrike prevention alternatives according to Australian Wool Innovation.

4. Can you help with peri-urban wild dog and fox research?
Assistance is needed for a study being conducted on disease prevalence and public health risks of wild dogs and foxes in peri-urban areas. If you, or someone you know regularly traps wild dogs and/or foxes in peri-urban locations then they want to hear from you. The study is being conducted by the University of Queensland, Biosecurity Queensland and funded by the Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Centre.

5. Breeding Merinos with short tails
One of sheep farming’s long held traditions, tail docking could be an optional rather than a standard practice. Genetic selection is being used to breed naturally short tail animals that do not need tail docking.

6. Forage budgeting videos
In this series of videos you will learn about forage budgeting: how to balance pasture supply with animal demand. The main advantage of forage budgeting is that it will give you an early warning if your feed will last until the next time you expect grass growing rain.
