Expression of interest for Leading Sheep Regional Coordinator Position

Part-time | Flexible | Position based in South West QLD

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Regional Coordinator, you will work as part of a team, but primarily with the DAF Extension Officer for the region to:

  1. Initiate, organise and facilitate the Regional Coordinating Committee meetings/teleconferences (two per year) and record key details and actions from these meetings.
  2.  Represent the Regional Coordinating Committee at the Project Advisory Panel meetings/teleconferences (two per year)
  3. Use your local intelligence and creative energies to plan, promote and conduct innovative and useful events and activities for sheep producers. This may also include running and facilitating these events on the day.
  4.  Develop and regularly update a regional activity plan (with assistance from the DAF Extension Officer and Regional Coordinating Committee) presenting topics as a suite of activities that promote awareness, knowledge and skills and ultimately practice change aligned with Leading Sheep objectives.
  5. Assist the Extension Officer to obtain relevant evaluation data including at events, as well as case studies, narratives and testimonials.
  6.  Act as a co-contact for specific events (workshops and webinars) and contribute to event outcomes being achieved.
  7.  Contribute to communications such as drafting Facebook posts, e-Newsletter articles and sourcing producer stories for case studies and articles
  8.  Use industry networks to encourage participation in Leading Sheep events.

Additional Information

  • Payment is on an hourly basis, for worktime and expense related claims associated with carrying out the roles and responsibilities outlined above.
  • This role will take approximately 8 hours per fortnight spread over the year, but at times, e.g. when events are being held, this may be more. Most of the work can be done from home and at times that are convenient to you unless traveling away for events/meetings.
  • Good internet connection and computer skills are essential.
  • The role would be until the 31 May 2026 start date is negotiable.
  • Public Liability Insurance is required.

Leading Sheep is a proactive network of Queensland sheep and wool businesses; at the forefront of practical and relevant information and technology to equip progressive and thriving producers for the future. It aims to maintain a high level of engagement with producers in three regions across the state — south, south west and north/central west. In each region, an extension officer and a regional coordinator work with a regional committee of producers to determine local priorities which guide events, communications and the direction of Leading Sheep. Leading Sheep is an important partnership between the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) and Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), and is supported by AgForce.

  1. Network – be an effective conduit between producers, between producers and experts, and between AWI, the consultant, MLA, AgForce and producers.

  • Improve content and ease of access to information
  1. Extension – building on the network and communications to provide training opportunities that lay the foundations for change

  • Lay foundations for change
