1. Webinar recordings now online
Are you one of the many people who registered for one of the H-Series webinars? They are now all on the Leading Sheep website for you to watch. The webinars are presented in short, 3-6 minute, clips so that you can watch the clip that is most relevant to you.
The 8 webinars delivered so far include: Health, Him & Her (reproduction), Handling Foundations, Herding Foundations, Husbandry, Housing (staff), Harvesting (wool) & How to sell wool.
To watch these clips visit – www.leadingsheep.com.au/category/recordedwebinars-videos/
Keep an eye out for the two upcoming webinars, How to sell stock and Hunger (nutrition).
2. Visitor contact information
According to the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries On-farm biosecurity website, to reduce biosecurity risks posed by visitors, keep a record of the names and dates of every visitor to your property. If you have a major road, you do not need the contact details of everyone going past, just the people who visit your property. These include neighbours, agents, salespeople, advisors, shooters, fishers and vets.
As a result of COVID-19 most of us are more comfortable using QR codes and online forms. Did you know that you could create your own visitor contact information form linked to a QR code that visitors could complete themselves? Similar to when you go out to dinner and check in, this is an easy solution for collecting biosecurity information.
Would you be interested in using a 1 page how-to guide to create your own form linked to a QR code? We can show you how if you let us know you’re interested!
To vote, click here or scan the QR code.
3. MerinoLink conference
Would you like to attend the MerinoLink conference in Wagga Wagga on the 16-18 June, but you’re unable to get away? Good news, you can now attend online.
MerinoLink Limited is a not for profit organisation that aims to facilitate sheep growers’ and service providers’ link with information, knowledge and research.
For more information and to register visit the MerioLink website at www.merinolink.com.au
4. Sticky florestina
Off the back of some decent rain, some plants have germinated that property owners haven’t seen before. One of these plants may be sticky florestina and this one may catch your eye first as it looks similar to Parthenium.
It is an introduced species, which means that you have a general biosecurity obligation to take reasonable and practical steps to minimise the risks associated, however, it is not classified as a prohibitived or restricted invasive plant under the Biosecurity Act 2014.
This means that it can be difficult to access funding for treatment.
To view a fact sheet on sticky florestina click here. The fact sheet includes photos comparing the difference between it and Parthinium, as well as chemical treatment and management.
